The Saab B205R is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four
gasoline engine, serving as the High Output Turbo (HOT) flagship of Saab’s “Low
Friction” H-engine family. Introduced in 1999, the B205R was engineered to
deliver high-performance characteristics for Aero-badged models while
maintaining the refinement and emissions compliance of the Trionic 7 (T7) engine
management system.
Mechanically sharing its block and head architecture with the lower-output
B205L, the B205R distinguished itself through a larger Mitsubishi turbocharger,
higher boost pressure, and dedicated engine calibration. The engine features a
cast iron cylinder block, aluminum alloy cylinder head, dual overhead camshafts,
and a direct ignition cassette. The B205R was produced until 2002, serving as
the premier powertrain for the first-generation Saab 9-3 Aero and select 9-3 SE
HOT variants.
