The Chrysler EGH engine is a 3.8-liter, naturally
aspirated, 60-degree V6 gasoline powerplant. Serving as the larger-displacement
derivative of the 3.3L EGA engine, it was engineered as a durable, high-torque
workhorse for front-wheel-drive vans and later found acclaim in the Jeep
Wrangler JK. Produced from 1990 to 2011 at Chrysler’s Trenton, Michigan engine
plant, the EGH features a cast-iron block with aluminum cylinder heads and a
pushrod valvetrain.
It is widely recognized for its longevity, with many units exceeding 370,000 km
(230,000 mi) when properly maintained, though it is noted for modest power
output relative to its displacement and elevated fuel consumption. The engine’s
design emphasizes reliability and low-end torque, making it well-suited for the
heavy minivans and off-road vehicles it powered.
