The Mitsubishi 6D14T is a 6.6-liter, inline
6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine widely employed in heavy-duty
applications including Fuso trucks, construction excavators such as
Kobelco and Kato models, and industrial generator sets. This engine is
part of Mitsubishi's 6D14 series, which includes naturally aspirated,
turbocharged, and aftercooled variants.
The Mitsubishi 6D14T features a direct injection combustion system, an
overhead valve (OHV) valvetrain with 12 valves, and a water-cooled
design. Known for durability and high torque output, this engine
delivers power for demanding tasks including earthmoving equipment and
long-haul freight. The engine rotates counter-clockwise when viewed from
the flywheel end.

The cylinder block is constructed from high-grade cast iron with a
deep-skirt design for maximum rigidity under heavy loads. Six cylinders
are arranged in an inline configuration.
The block incorporates seven main bearing supports to maintain
crankshaft alignment throughout the operating range. A forged steel
crankshaft ensures durability for sustained high-torque operation. The
block includes integrated oil galleries and cooling passages surrounding
each cylinder.
The cylinder head is manufactured from cast iron and utilizes an
overhead valve (OHV) configuration. The valve train operates two valves
per cylinder (one intake, one exhaust), totaling 12 valves. Valves are
actuated by pushrods and rocker arms from a camshaft located within the
cylinder block.
The direct injection combustion chambers are machined into the cylinder
head surface. Valve rotators are installed on exhaust valves to prevent
carbon buildup under sustained high-load operation. Valve Clearance
(Cold - Intake and Exhaust): 0.40 mm (0.016 in).
The engine employs a mechanical direct injection system. An inline
injection pump (Bosch or Zexel) meters and distributes fuel to
individual injection lines serving each cylinder. The pump includes a
mechanical centrifugal governor that maintains engine speed under
varying loads.
Pencil-type injectors with a preset opening pressure are installed one
per cylinder. A gear-type feed pump, mounted on the injection pump body,
draws fuel from the tank through a primary filter (water separator)
before supplying the secondary spin-on fuel filter.
Oil Capacity (with filter): 10.5-11.0 L (11.1-11.6 US qt)
Oil Pressure at rated speed: 40-60 psi (2.8-4.1 bar)
Recommended Oil Grade: SAE 15W-40 (API CD, CE, or CF)
Oil Filter: Full-flow spin-on type with integral bypass valve
System Features: A gear-type oil pump driven from the crankshaft draws
oil through a strainer inside the oil pan. An oil cooler, integrated
into the coolant circuit, maintains oil temperature within operational
limits.
Coolant Capacity (engine only): 9.0-10.0 L (9.5-10.6 US qt)
Thermostat opening temperature: 76.5°C (170°F)
Thermostat fully open temperature: 90°C (194°F)
Coolant Type: Ethylene glycol-based with corrosion inhibitors
Water Pump: Belt-driven centrifugal type
System Features: A bypass thermostat circuit maintains rapid warm-up.
The water pump circulates coolant through the cylinder block, cylinder
head, and oil cooler circuit.
| Intake and Exhaust Systems |
Air Intake System: Dry-type air cleaner with paper filter element. The
turbocharger (TD06 or TD07 series) is oil-cooled via a supply line from
