The Deutz BF6M1015C is a 6-cylinder, V-block,
turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine from the 1015 family, a
platform engineered for heavy-duty industrial and marine applications.
The "C" designation represents a specific power calibration within the
1015 series, positioned between lower-output "M" variants and
higher-output "CP" versions.
This engine employs a liquid-cooled system with individual grey cast
iron cylinder heads per bank, a cross-flow design with four-valve
technology. Direct injection is achieved through an in-line injection
pump with either a mechanical centrifugal governor or the optional EMR-2
electronic engine governor. The engine meets EU Stage II emission
standards. Applications include heavy construction machinery, generator
sets, marine propulsion for commercial vessels, and industrial power
units.
Engine Type: 4-cycle 6-cylinder V-block turbocharged liquid cooling
diesel.
Displacement: 11.9 L (726 cu.in).
Bore x Stroke: 132 mm x 145 mm (5.20 in x 5.71 in).
Compression Ratio: 16.5:1.
Rated Power: 300 kW (405 hp) at 2100 rpm.
Maximum Torque: 1978 Nm (1467 lb-ft) at 1200 rpm.
Torque Speed: 1200 rpm.
Idle Speed: 600 rpm (industrial) / 550 rpm (marine calibration).
Firing Order: 1-4-2-5-3-6 (standard for V6 engines).
Aspiration: Turbocharged with charge air cooler.
Emission Standard: EU Stage II / US Tier 2 (Euro II).
Cooling System: Liquid cooling with engine-integrated water pump and
radiator.
The crankcase is constructed from high-grade grey cast iron with a
90-degree V-block configuration. The design incorporates replaceable
wet-type cylinder liners, a feature that enables engine rebuild without
replacing the entire block. The crankcase uses a closed-circuit,
vacuum-controlled breather system. The crankshaft is drop-forged steel
with bolted counterweights.
The V6 block features a 30° offset crankpin arrangement (split-pin
design), providing even firing intervals of 120 degrees despite the
90-degree bank angle. This configuration reduces engine vibration
without requiring a balance shaft.
The engine uses individual cylinder heads for each cylinder bank,
constructed from grey cast iron in a cross-flow design. The overhead
valve (OHV) configuration places the camshaft within the cylinder block
V-valley. Pushrods and rocker arms actuate the valves.
Four valves per cylinder (two intake, two exhaust) produce a total of 24
valves. The 4-valve technology improves volumetric efficiency and
centralizes the fuel injector position. The valve arrangement uses
overhead valves with four-valve technology.
Valve seats are pressed into the head. The valvetrain uses mechanical
lash adjusters. Valve Clearance (cold engine): 0.20-0.30 mm for intake,
0.30-0.40 mm for exhaust dependent on calibration).
The fuel system is a mechanical direct injection design with an in-line
injection pump. The injection pump is a high-pressure unit with
plunger-type design, accurately delivering diesel fuel to each cylinder
for optimal combustion. Fuel injection uses an 8-hole nozzle with
central arrangement, providing optimized fuel atomization directly into
the piston combustion bowl.
The injection system is managed by either a mechanical centrifugal
governor (standard) or an optional EMR-2 electronic engine governor. The
EMR-2 provides diagnostic capabilities, CAN-Bus connectivity, and remote
speed control.
A mechanical reciprocating fuel lift pump draws fuel from the tank
through a primary fuel filter with a replaceable cartridge element.
High-pressure injection lines route fuel from the pump to each cylinder.
Injection Pressure: 22.0 to 24.0 MPa (3200 to 3500 psi) depending on
calibration.
The lubrication system is a forced-feed, fully pressurized circulation
circuit using gear pumps. An engine-integrated oil cooler maintains oil
temperature under sustained high-load operation.
The oil pump flow rate at 2100 rpm is 170 L/min (45 US gal/min). A
full-flow paper-type microfilter with replaceable cartridge
configuration removes particulates from the lubricant.
Piston cooling is provided by oil spray nozzles directed at the
underside of each piston crown. For CP (high-output) versions,
channel-cooled pistons with integrated cooling galleries are used.
Oil Capacity: 40 L (42.3 qt) including filter, dependent on oil pan
configuration. Recommended Oil Grade: SAE 15W-40 meeting API CI-4 or
higher specification. Oil Pressure (rated speed, warm engine): 350 to
450 kPa (51 to 65 psi). Oil Pressure (idle, warm engine): Minimum 100
kPa (15 psi).
The cooling system is a pressurized, thermostatically controlled liquid
cooling circuit. A belt-driven centrifugal water pump circulates coolant
through the cylinder block, cylinder heads, and the charge air cooler
circuit. A thermostatically controlled bypass circuit permits coolant
circulation within the engine during warm-up.
A radiator with pressure cap and expansion tank is integrated into the
cooling circuit. Recommended Coolant: Ethylene glycol antifreeze mixed
50% with distilled water, with supplemental coolant additive (SCA) for
wet liner cavitation protection.
Coolant Capacity: 25 L (26.4 qt) engine only.
Thermostat Opening Temperature: 82°C (180°F).
Thermostat Fully Open Temperature: 95°C (203°F).
Electrical System: 24-volt DC negative ground. A three-phase alternator
rated at 28V - 55A (optionally 100A) is standard. A gear-reduction
starter motor completes the starting system.
Engine Governor: Mechanical centrifugal governor integrated into the
in-line injection pump is standard. Optional EMR-2 electronic engine
governor provides diagnostic capabilities, CAN-Bus connectivity, and
remote speed control.
Air Intake System: Dry-type, two-stage paper element air cleaner with a
dust evacuation valve. The turbocharger draws air through the filter
before compressing it into the charge air cooler and intake manifold.
Turbocharger: A single turbocharger with charge air cooling provides
boost pressure up to approximately 1.8 bar (26 psi). The turbocharger is
mounted on the exhaust manifold between the cylinder banks.
Exhaust System: Single exhaust manifold outlet flange sized for flexible
exhaust piping. The engine meets EPA and IMO emission compliance for
marine installations.
Overall Length: 1043 mm (41.1 in).
Overall Width: 932 mm (36.7 in).
Overall Height: 1174 mm (46.2 in).
Dry Weight: 850 kg (1874 lb). Marine versions with heat exchanger weigh
900 kg (1985 lb).
Gross Weight: 950 kg (2095 lb).
Oil Change Interval: 500 hours for industrial duty under normal
operating conditions. Reduce to 250 hours for severe conditions
including dusty environments, sustained high ambient temperatures above
30°C (86°F), or operation with fuel sulfur content above 0.5%. Oil
Filter Replacement: At every oil change. Use a paper-type microfilter
with replaceable cartridge element. Fuel Filter Replacement (primary):
500 hours or annually. Drain water separator weekly in humid climates.
