The Cummins QSC8.3 is an electronically
controlled, high-performance mid-range diesel engine designed for heavy
construction machinery, agricultural tractors, industrial equipment,
generator sets, and marine platforms. As the electronically managed
successor to the mechanical 6CT8.3 and 6CTA8.3, the QSC8.3 introduces
high-pressure common-rail fuel-injection (HPCR), an advanced ECM,
improved air-handling systems, reduced emissions, and enhanced overall
efficiency.
The QSC8.3 is widely used in excavators, wheel loaders, telehandlers,
agricultural sprayers, large tractors, compact industrial power units,
gensets, and marine auxiliary systems. Known for its exceptionally high
torque at low engine speeds, stable power across the RPM range, and long
overhaul cycles, the QSC8.3 continues to be a cornerstone in demanding
industrial environments.
The Cummins QSC8.3 is a four-stroke, turbocharged, water-cooled inline
six-cylinder diesel engine. Total displacement is 8.3 liters (505 cubic
inches). Bore is 114 mm (4.49 in), and stroke is 135 mm (5.31 in),
creating a long-stroke design optimized for continuous torque
production. Compression ratio ranges between 16.6:1 and 17.3:1 depending
on emissions rating and market configuration.
