The powerhead of the Evinrude G2 200 features a 66-degree V6 block cast
from high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials. The cylinder bore
measures 86 mm, and the piston stroke is 79 mm, contributing to the
engine's 167 cubic inch displacement. The engine utilizes a loop-charged
design with advanced direct fuel injection. As a two-stroke engine, it
utilizes a reed valve induction system with no camshaft timing belts or
valve clearance adjustments required, eliminating components that
require adjustment or replacement.
The pistons feature rings with nickel/chrome face for extended life, and
connecting rods and crankshaft are micro-finished for reduced friction.
The powerhead is designed with a low-friction architecture that
eliminates submersed pump gears, belts, cams, oil scraping rings, and
mechanical oil pumps found in four-stroke competitors. The firing order
is 1-2-3-4-5-6, with inductive discharge ignition controlled by the EMM
and an RPM limit of 6250 RPM in gear.
The fuel system is centered around Evinrude's advanced E-TEC direct
injection technology with stratified low RPM combustion mode.
High-pressure fuel injectors, precisely controlled by the EMM, deliver a
finely atomized fuel spray directly into the combustion chambers. The
system delivers up to 30 percent more torque and up to 15 percent better
fuel efficiency compared to leading four-stroke outboard engines, with
up to 75 percent fewer total regulated emissions.
The engine is designed to operate on standard 87 octane unleaded
gasoline (87 AKI or 90 RON). Fuel pressure specifications include a lift
pump minimum of 6 psi at idle and high-pressure pump operating at 26 to
32 psi at 5500 RPM. The fuel system includes an inline filter (P/N
357797) and a water-separating filter (P/N 502906). The sealed fuel
system design enhances safety and reduces evaporative emissions.
Lubrication is managed by a sophisticated multi-point targeted oiling
system with EMM-controlled variable ratio. An electric oil pump draws
oil from the integral tank and injects it directly onto critical engine
components based on real-time engine speed and load demands. There is no
requirement to mix oil with fuel, as lubrication is a completely
separate system.
An on-engine oil tank with a capacity of 3 gallons (11.4 liters) is
standard, with additional accessory tank sizes available including 1.8
gallon (6.8 L), 3 gallon (11.3 L), and 10 gallon (37.85 L) tanks to suit
extended operation requirements. The recommended lubricant is Evinrude
XD-100 oil, a fully synthetic oil specifically formulated for E-TEC
engines to maximize performance and reduce carbon deposits. Evinrude
XD-50 or synthetic TC-W3 NMMA-certified oil may also be used. The system
eliminates the need for oil changes, oil filters, and the disposal of
used crankcase oil.
The cooling system is a pressure and temperature-controlled water-cooled
design. A high-capacity water pump circulates water through extensive
water jackets in the cylinder block and cylinder heads. The system uses
a two-stage design controlled by thermostats opening at 143°F (62°C) and
a pressure relief valve opening at 28 to 30 psi (193 to 206 kPa) to
maintain optimal operating temperature across all engine speeds. Water
pressure at idle should be 5 to 8 psi (34 to 55 kPa), and at 5000 to
6000 RPM should be 24 to 40 psi (165 to 276 kPa).
Maximum operating temperature is 203°F (95°C). The raw water-cooled
Engine Management Module ensures stable component temperatures. The
self-flushing cooling system requires minimal maintenance and includes
stainless steel thermostats for corrosion resistance. The EMM
continuously monitors engine temperature and will activate the S.A.F.E.
warning system to reduce RPM and protect the engine if an overheat
condition is detected.
| Mid Section and Lower Unit |
The mid-section represents a revolutionary design that integrates the
steering system and gears into the housing, protecting components from
exposure and creating a cleaner transom installation. The mid-section
houses the driveshaft and exhaust tube, connecting the powerhead to the
lower unit.
The lower unit features the new SLX gearcase with more robust gears to
enhance overall durability. The gearcase utilizes a 2.17:1 reduction
ratio (12:26). Gearcase lubricant capacity for standard rotation models
is 38.9 fl oz (1180 ml) for the gearcase only, and 45.6 fl oz (1350 ml)
including vent hose and oil reservoir. Counter rotation models have a
gearcase capacity of 39 fl oz (1154 ml) and 44.7 fl oz (1324 ml)
including vent hose and reservoir.
The recommended lubricant is HPF Pro Gearcase Lubricant. The gearcase
features a forward-neutral-reverse shifting mechanism. Stainless steel
components and multiple layers of anti-corrosive coating provide
extensive corrosion protection. The exhaust is routed through the
propeller hub.
The Evinrude G2 200 is equipped with Power Trim and Tilt as standard
equipment, with variations depending on model configuration. The trim
range is -6 deg to +15 deg, providing precise adjustment of the boat's
running attitude. The tilt range varies by model: C200FL, C200FX,
C200XC, and C200XO models feature an 81-degree tilt range, while C200PL,
C200PX, C200PXC, C200AX, and C200AXC models feature a 75-degree tilt
range.
The system includes i-Trim, an automatic trim optimization feature that
adjusts engine angle for optimal performance and fuel efficiency based
on operating conditions. Power trim and tilt fluid capacity is 24 fl oz
(710 ml) for full-featured models and 21 fl oz (621 ml) for TRAC+
models. The recommended fluid is Power Trim/Tilt Fluid, P/N 767969. The
system includes a manual release valve for emergency operation.
Proper propeller selection is critical to allow the engine to operate
within its 5400-6000 RPM full-throttle range under normal load
conditions. The Evinrude G2 200 utilizes propellers designed for the
15-spline shaft configuration. Right-hand propellers are considered
standard rotation, rotating clockwise when viewed from the rear to
propel the boat forward. In multiple outboard installations,
counter-rotation propellers (left-hand) are used on one engine to
provide balanced steering torque.
The specific propeller selection depends on boat type, intended use, and
load conditions. Propeller installation requires applying Triple-Guard
grease to the entire propeller shaft, sliding the thrust washer with
shoulder facing aft, engaging the splines, and installing the spacer.
The propeller nut must be torqued to 70 to 80 lb-ft (95 to 109 N·m) and
secured with a keeper and cotter pin.

The Evinrude G2 200 is engineered for minimal maintenance requirements,
representing one of the most significant ownership advantages of the
E-TEC system. A key benefit is no scheduled dealer maintenance required
for the first five years or 500 hours of normal recreational use. The
engine features an auto-winterization mode that simplifies long-term
storage, eliminating the need for manual fuel system treatment.
There are no valves to adjust, belts to service, chains to replace, or
oil to change over the life of the engine. The EMM continuously monitors
engine systems and stores fault codes for diagnostic purposes.
Recommended pre-launch checks include verifying fluid levels and
inspecting for any signs of damage or corrosion. Saltwater applications
require minimal additional inspections and lubrication.
