BMW M52B28TU Troubleshooting

Engine will not start or starts up hard

Empty gas tank - Fill it up.
Improper fuel grade - Change fuel.
Dirt and debris in fuel system - Remove debris and dirt.
Faulty spark plug wire connection - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.
Faulty spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Ignition system is defective - Check ignition and replace faulty components.
Dirty fuel filter - Replace fuel filter.
Clogged fuel lines - Clean fuel system lines.
Fuel pump is clogged or faulty - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Fuel injectors are defective or dirty - Test fuel injectors and change if necessary.
Low compression - Check and replace worn parts.

Unstable engine running

Ignition system problems - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Air filter element is plugged - Clean or replace air filter.
Defective spark plug - Change spark plug.
Clogged or damaged fuel pump - Service or change fuel pump.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust valve clearance.
Ignition timing is incorrect - Ignition timing needs to be set properly.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Adjust idle speed.

Engine starts and stops suddenly

Defective spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Fuel injectors are damaged or dirty - Clean or change fuel injectors.
Ignition coil is faulty - Change ignition coil as required.
Broken or loose valve springs - Install new valve springs.
Stuck valves - Valves must be cleaned.

Engine keeps overheating

Engine oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Excessive engine load - Load reducing is recommended.
Dirty fuel injectors - Need to clean fuel injectors.
Ignition timing is improper - Set the ignition timing properly.
Incorrect valve setting - Adjust valves correctly.
Clogged radiator core or leaking radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.

Engine using too much oil
