BMW M43B18 Troubleshooting
Engine will not start or difficult to start |
Gas tank is empty - Add fuel.
Improper fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade.
Dirty fuel system - Check and clean.
Spark plug wire connection are damaged - Check the spark plug wire connection, repair or replace.
Spark plug is damaged - Change spark plug.
Ignition system is defective - Test ignition and replace failed parts.
Clogged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs changing.
Restricted fuel lines - Service fuel lines.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Clogged or defective fuel injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Engine has bad compression - Check cylinder block and change wear parts.
Irregular engine running |
Defective ignition system - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Plugged air filter - Clean or replace air filter.
Defective spark plug - Replace spark plug.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Check fuel pump and change if required.
Excessive valve clearance - Adjustment procedure required.
Bad ignition timing - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust idling as required.
Engine starts and stalls suddenly |
Spark plug is faulty - Replace spark plug.

Ignition coil is not working - Install a new ignition coil.
Broken or bad valve springs - Change valve springs.

Engine keeps overheating |
Engine oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
